The Beaumont Club   

At its heart, the Beaumont Club is a country music dance hall. On a usual night, the dance floor is saved for DJ's who keep you two-stepping and honky-tonking. But when the owners throw open the doors for a concert, anyone might come in. The stage could feature the next big pop sensation, a heavy metal band, a hip-hop star and -- once in awhile -- an actual country music singer. That's what it takes to survive in Westport, which is a strange place to have a country and western bar. But make no mistake, when it is time for country there will be plenty of cowboy hats, Wranglers and cowboy boots in the crowd. On the other hand, the crowd will mostly be young and on the prowl, so it doesn't get too different from any other Westport bar. That's usually true for the concerts as well. If you're looking for your seat and a comfortable evening of music, look again. This is a place to push your way in and then stand or dance. -- Michael Humphrey
