Check back for more details.This live-music venue owes its catchy name more to history than reality -- there was a Gypsy Tea Room in Deep Ellum in the 1930s. Pink walls and elegant wall sconces commemorate the sophistication and proper air of a tearoom while the whimsical, fiery nature of the gypsy is, without a doubt, the predominant spirit. The music has roots in country and rock, though much of it defies easy categorization. Passionate followers descend when the Gypsy Tea Room draws national performers such as Steve Earle, or popular local band Brave Combo. The Ballroom, which accommodates about 600, has a hardwood floor that reverberates to the stomp and thud of hundreds of dancing feet. The smaller performance area, the Tea Room, holds up to 250 people and is perfect for more intimate shows. All that makes this venue a favorite with locals. -- Kathryn Jones
