Rate and Write a Review The Broken Spoke has been serving up Texas country and Western music and home-style cooking since 1964. The management will even tell you they serve the best chicken-fried steak in town and, curious as it may seem, most of the patrons seem to agree. On your way in, take a while to peruse the tourist trap, a small museum of Texas memorabilia that boasts cowboy hats worn by Willie Nelson and LBJ. Then head straight for the dance hall in back where the simple red and white checkered tablecloths and cement dance floor belie the long list of C&W heroes who have graced the stage. After all these years, the Broken Spoke has stayed true to its simple roots, which is saying a lot in this day and age.

If you don't like the 'Spoke, you don't like dancehalls. If you want to see a true honky-tonk, this is the place. As for the "northeasterner" who likes to line dance, the reason the 'Spoke discourages it is because they get in the way of people who can ACTUALLY DANCE!
charlies review
The music was good, I thought the cover charge (12 dollars) was excessive. The food was ok, my girlfriend didnt feel well after the chicken quesadia though. I like rustic places but damn we felt like the place was a dump. You can keep it rustic and still maintain it! We come from the Northeast where line dancing is popular so we were a little put off by the notice by the door "We said no line dancin" above a picture of a hanging.
not bad
We had a pretty good time, but seemed a little confusing. Order food on this side, but you have to carry it to the dancefloor side. Not enough waitresses to serve drinks on the dancehall side. Line was too long to order drinks. Needs some major repairs but all in all, lived up to a real saloon feel, the band was excellent. The folks were real downhome friendly. I for sure liked the fact that before the band started, the owner had everyone stand & say the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag... God Bless Texas & the U.S.A.
Nice place
Broken Spoke is the place to enjoy music, beer, food and local people. Everything is enjoyable except the toilets. I am sure the management can afford to improve their bathrooms.
